Areas of application
In a bar magnet system, the housing is usually made of steel, in which the raw magnet is embedded, similar to pot magnets. On the other hand, deep pot magnets with a brass housing are constructed with a transverse raw magnet and two adjacent metal pieces (known as a pole shoe system) to ensure a high concentration of the magnetic field and maximum holding force.
The brass housing is corrosion-resistant and the holding surface of these bar grippers can be machined, unlike bar grippers with a steel housing. This advantage is particularly important for the following application:
- Machine and fixture construction: Samarium-Cobalt pot magnets are ideal for applications in machine and fixture construction where high ambient temperatures prevail and the highest precision is required at the holding surface. After installation, the holding surface can be easily mechanically reworked – whether by milling, turning or grinding – to meet the requirements for tolerance accuracy.
